FOLK MUSIC THROUGH YEARS

The folk song in Peqin undoubtedly belongs to the folk repertoire of Central Albania.
It conveys in its articulation not only the musical identity of this area but also the contribution to the enrichment of this musical genre. Although the musical lines, intonation, arrangement, orchestration are often similar to each other as a result of inter-provincial music exchanges in this genre, the folk song in Peqin has been able to fanatically preserve its forms and has become an essential part of the cultural tradition of the area.
In recent years, as a result of the expansion of commercialization in all fields, such a trend is observed also in this musical genre, where variations and cross-repertoire are competing alternatively. Folk music certainly needs to be enriched by following current and future trends, however it is important to pay attention to preserving their originality as an expression of the rhythm, feeling, spirituality and spiritual harmony that is conveyed by them.
Many of these folk songs have to do with special events in the life of a community, have a significant historical background and they are rooted in the memory of generations. Folk songs not only bring people together but also help them express collective tastes and emotions.
Kenga e Shejes from Peqini, 30 days of Ramadan, Kenga e Peqinit and many others are a reflection on a true understanding of the musical interpretations and the culture and conscience of the inhabitants of the Peqin area. We cannot leave without mentioning the contribution to this musical genre of Qanije Beqiri, Besim Tosku, Agron Vogli, Skender Maloku, Edmond Kasemi, Ilir Sufali, brothers Arben and Dashamir Beheluli, Melola Karaj, Griselda Vogli etc, who over the years have kept alive this tradition and enriching it in the future.
