The Illyrians were Indo-European tribesmen who appeared in the western part of the Balkan Peninsula about 1000 BC.
King Bardhylus united Illyria, Molossia (Epirus) and part of Macedonia. The Illyrian kingdom reaches its peak.
79 - 69 BC
Egnatia road was built during Roman reign of emperor Claudius.

A new settlement named Clodiana (modern Peqin) was built in (Illyricum) region along Egnatia road. It represents one of the oldest settlements built alongside the northern side of the river Genusus (modern Shkumbin).

Caesar, Roman general and statesman, began building a colony at Butrint, Albania.
Division of Roman Empire left lands presently inhabited by Albanians under the administration of the Eastern Empire.
732 BC
Illyrians were subordinated to the patriarchate of Constantinople by the Byzantine Emperor, Leo the Isaurian.

Goths, Huns, Avars, Serbs, Croats, and Bulgars successively have invaded Illyrian lands.
Forces of the King of Naples occupied Durrës and established the Kingdom of Arbëria, the first Albanian kingdom since the fall of Illyria.

Peqin, under ottoman empire, was known as BIKLINET and later PEKLIN which translates as "hospitable people".

Sultan Mehmet II, vanquished Constantinople, and gradually developing into the Byzantine empire.
1466
Gjon Kastrioti “Skanderbeg”, proclaimed chief of the League of Lezhë, began the defense of Krujë against massive Ottoman armies.

1616 - 1686
Skanderbeg died and the Turks absorbed Albania into the Ottoman Empire.
Abdurrahman Abdi Pasha, born in the village of Çopanej near Peqin, was an ottoman politician and military leader.The foundation of Peqin is mainly owed to him.
1666
Abdurrahman Pasha built in Peqin one of the best mosques of Albania, together with a clock tower, called to this day, Clock mosque.
1830
Peqin mosque was rebuilt by Cafer Sadık Pasha after a devastating fire.

The Ottoman empire divided Albanian-populated lands into vilayets of Janina, Manastir, Shkodra, and Kosova with Ottoman administrators. Peqin was part of Manastir vilayet.

Albanian leaders affirmed Albania as an independent state. Ismail Qemal was elected head of provisional government.
1922-1939
Ahmet Zogolli (self-proclaimed King of Albania) became Prime Minister in 1922, and reigned until 1939

Italian invasion of Albania, part of the World War II.

Liberation of Albania.
1944-1983
December 1990
Establishment of a communist system in Albania. Enver Hoxha was the leader of the Balkan nation of Albania.
After almost 45 years of communist rule, in Dec 8, 1990, Tirana University students demonstrated in the streets and called for the dictatorship to end.
Peqin students participated in the demonstration as well.
1990-present
Albania aspires to join European family. Democracy still facing challanges.
